The Roof Insurance Claim Process, Step by Step

Roofing Giant · Guide

A hail or wind claim has six steps, and most of the money homeowners leave on the table is lost at steps three and four: when the adjuster writes the scope and when supplements are needed. Here is how Roofing Giant’s no-stress insurance restoration process moves from the first inspection to the last check.

The six-step process Roofing Giant follows on every insurance restoration project.

The six steps

  1. Free 30-point inspection. We inspect every slope, mark test squares, photograph collateral damage and give you a written report. If there is no claim-worthy damage, we say so and you are done.
  2. You file the claim; we build the estimate. You call your carrier with the storm date. We prepare a line-item estimate in Xactimate, the same software adjusters use, so the scope can be compared item by item.
  3. We meet the adjuster on the roof. Our specialist walks the roof with the adjuster, points out every test square and collateral item, and applies Haag Engineering damage standards. Most missed items happen when no one is there to point them out.
  4. Scope and price agreed with the carrier. If the adjuster’s estimate omits code-required items (ice-and-water barrier, drip edge, ventilation, decking) or underprices a line, we submit a supplement with documentation.
  5. Installation. Once the scope is approved you pay your deductible to Roofing Giant, the carrier issues the first (ACV) check, and we install the roof, usually in one day for most homes.
  6. Final invoice and depreciation. We send the completion invoice to your carrier, which releases the recoverable depreciation on RCV policies. Your lifetime warranty is issued.

Texas rules that protect you

  • Contractors may not pay, waive or rebate your deductible (Texas Business & Commerce Code §27.02). We will not, and neither should anyone else.
  • You choose your contractor. Carriers may suggest a preferred vendor, but the choice is yours.
  • Carriers must acknowledge, investigate and pay claims within statutory timeframes under the Texas Insurance Code.
  • Read your policy for the wind/hail deductible, the settlement basis (RCV or ACV) and any roof payment schedule.

Claim questions

Will filing a claim raise my premium?

Weather claims are generally treated differently from at-fault claims, but carriers do consider claim history. That is one reason to file only when the documented damage clearly exceeds your deductible; the deductible calculator helps you judge that.

What if the adjuster denies the roof?

You can request a re-inspection, ask for a different adjuster, or invoke the appraisal clause in your policy. Roofing Giant’s documentation package, with test squares and dated storm data, is designed to support a re-inspection.

Do you work with every insurance company?

Yes. We have worked with every major carrier writing homeowner policies in Texas since 2012.
