Roof Insurance Claims in Texas: How It Works

Insurance restoration support

As a roofing contractor experienced in insurance restoration, we document roof damage, prepare repair estimates, meet the insurer’s adjuster and explain technical roofing scope. Roofing Giant does not act as a public adjuster, negotiate policy coverage or settle claims for homeowners.

How this page fits: this page is the broader Texas homeowner overview of roof insurance claims. For the detailed sequence from inspection through completion use the step-by-step claim-process guide; for Roofing Giant’s contractor workflow use Insurance Restoration Process; for contractor documentation and roofing estimates use Claim Documentation & Estimate Help; for the full education cluster use the DFW Roofing Knowledge Center.

Three things to know before you file

Start with the roof and your policy

Coverage depends on your policy and the insurer’s claim decision. Our role is to inspect the roof, document observed damage and explain the repair scope and estimate.

Make the reporting decision from your policy

Whether and when to report a loss is your decision. Review your policy and your insurer’s instructions. Roofing Giant can document the roof condition and repair scope, but we do not advise on coverage, claim settlement or how a claim may affect insurance pricing.

Damage you cannot see yet

Hail bruises and wind creases can exist before a leak appears. Document roof conditions promptly and review your policy and insurer’s notice instructions for any reporting deadlines. Roofing Giant can document the roof; your policy and insurer govern claim timing and coverage.

The claim, step by step

  1. Free 30-point inspection

We photograph and document observed roof and exterior conditions, including relevant shingle, flashing, vent, gutter and soft-metal conditions.

  2. You report the claim

If you choose to make a claim, report the loss directly to your insurer using its instructions. Roofing Giant can provide the inspection report and repair estimate, but we do not file or negotiate the claim for you.

  3. We meet the adjuster

Your roofing specialist can walk the roof with the insurer’s adjuster, point out documented damage and answer questions about our estimate and code-related roofing scope.

  4. Estimate comparison and scope clarification

We compare the insurer’s estimate with our repair estimate and can provide a revised roofing estimate or technical documentation when quantities, construction scope or pricing differ. Coverage and settlement decisions remain with you and the insurer.

  5. Installation

A complete roofing system, built to code, usually in one to two days, with qualified roofing crews managed to Roofing Giant project standards.

  6. Final invoice and warranty

We provide the completion invoice and project documentation needed for the roofing work, then give you the warranty and lien release.

Comparing repair estimates

Your insurer may prepare its own estimate, and a roofing contractor may prepare a repair estimate based on observed damage and the work required. Roofing Giant’s role is to explain our estimate, construction methods, code-related items and any documented differences. Questions about policy obligations or claim settlement should be directed to your insurer, a licensed public adjuster or an attorney.

What you pay

Your deductible remains the policyholder’s responsibility. Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive, absorb or rebate it. Your policy and insurer determine how a covered loss is valued and paid. Use the deductible calculator to estimate the deductible amount shown by your policy, and review our 2026 Texas roof-insurance deductible law field report for current statutory and TDI guidance.

If your insurer is not listed, Roofing Giant can still inspect the roof, prepare the roofing estimate and provide technical scope documentation. Use your insurer’s official reporting instructions for the claim itself, or share existing claim details with Roofing Giant for roofing-scope follow-up.

Questions we hear most

How long do I have to report roof damage?

Notice and claim deadlines depend on your policy, insurer and circumstances. Review the policy and contact the insurer for its reporting requirements. Roofing Giant can document roof conditions and repair scope, but we do not advise whether or when you should file a claim.

What is the difference between RCV and ACV?

Replacement-cost and actual-cash-value provisions can produce different claim payments. Some replacement-cost policies may pay additional amounts after covered repairs are completed, while actual-cash-value coverage accounts for depreciation. The policy terms and insurer determine how your claim is valued and paid.

Will filing a claim affect my insurance cost or availability?

It can. Texas Department of Insurance guidance notes that insurers use claims history when deciding whether to offer coverage and how much to charge. Ask your agent or insurer how a claim could affect your policy before deciding whether to file.

Can Roofing Giant file or negotiate the claim for me?

No. Roofing Giant does not file or negotiate an insurance claim for you. We can provide our inspection report and repair estimate, meet the insurer’s adjuster, and discuss technical roofing scope and estimate questions.

What if the insurer denies the claim?

You can ask your insurer about its review or re-inspection process. Roofing Giant can provide roofing documentation and attend a roof inspection when requested. For a dispute about policy coverage or settlement, consider speaking with a licensed public adjuster or an attorney.

For the property decision: use the DFW Roof Decision Center. For current source-first local research on storm context, permits and contractor-registration questions, use DFW Roofing Field Reports.
