Insurance Restoration Process: 6 Steps

No-stress restoration

Storm damage does not have to mean months of phone calls. Our six-step insurance restoration process takes a roof from the first inspection to the final warranty with one team accountable for every step. It starts with a free 30-point property inspection and a written report you can send to your carrier. For a detailed overview of documentation, estimates and the contractor’s role, see roof insurance claims in Texas.

How this page fits: this page explains Roofing Giant’s contractor workflow during an insurance-restoration roofing project. For the homeowner-facing insurance sequence use the claim-process guide; for roofing documentation and estimate help use Claim Documentation & Estimate Help; for broader Texas claim context see Roof Insurance Claims in Texas.

The six steps at a glance.

Step 1. 30-point property inspection

A Roofing Giant specialist inspects accessible roof and exterior components and documents observed conditions affecting the roofing scope, such as the attic, roof covering, decking where visible, flashing, gutters, downspouts and related exterior components. You receive a written report with photographs that you can keep or share with your insurer. During the visit we explain the roofing conditions, construction scope and common documentation process; the insurer determines policy coverage. If roofing work is not indicated by the inspection, we explain that finding rather than recommending unnecessary work.

Step 2. Estimating and the insurance process

Estimating

  • Xactimate estimating software when appropriate for the project
  • Roof-measurement data from aerial reports and field verification where appropriate
  • The city’s currently adopted building-code requirements and applicable roofing-system details
  • Line-by-line comparison of our roofing estimate with the insurer’s estimate when useful

Insurance procedures

  • Claim reporting (you report the loss; we provide roofing documentation)
  • Construction agreement
  • Adjuster inspection with your roofing specialist present when requested
  • Revised roofing estimates or technical documentation when the repair scope changes
  • Project documentation for lender or mortgage-company requirements when applicable

Filing the claim

If you choose to report storm damage, contact your insurer directly using its claim-reporting instructions. Roofing Giant can provide the property inspection report and repair estimate for you to keep or share with the insurer. You may also ask the insurer to coordinate its roof inspection with your contractor so our roofing specialist can point out documented conditions and answer technical questions about our estimate. If necessary and requested, we can perform temporary protection such as tarping to reduce further water intrusion.

Meeting the insurance adjuster

After a claim is reported, the insurer may assign an adjuster to inspect the property and prepare an estimate. At your request, a Roofing Giant specialist can attend the roof inspection, point out documented conditions and answer technical questions about our roofing estimate, code-related construction items and repair scope. Coverage and settlement decisions remain with the insurer and policyholder. Our roofing assessment is documented with photographs and applicable construction-code references.

Step 3. Project review with the property owner

After the insurer makes its coverage decision, and if you choose Roofing Giant for the construction work, we review the authorized roofing scope, product selection, written contract and project-management details with you.

Texas law requires a policyholder to pay the deductible required by the policy and does not allow a contractor to waive, absorb or rebate it. Other out-of-pocket amounts can also apply depending on policy limits, exclusions, depreciation, upgrades or work that is not covered. The insurer determines coverage and payment under the policy. Use the deductible calculator as a planning tool, review the 2026 Texas deductible-law field report, and confirm the actual policy amounts with your insurer.

Step 4. Project planning

  • Management review and project planning
  • City permit
  • Scheduling
  • Material and job orders
  • Material delivered the morning of installation, checked for the right products and colors
  • Material drop check: the first insurance check is collected once materials are on site

Step 5. Project completion

Installation usually starts around 7 a.m. and takes one to two days depending on size and complexity. Gutters, window screens and other trades follow the roof. Your specialist and a project manager meet the crew on site to relay any special instructions, and our quality assurance manager and crew supervisor stay involved until the final inspection.

  • Protect the property and cover the pool
  • Remove old layers of roofing
  • Inspect decking and replace damaged sheets
  • Inspect and fix wall flashings
  • Apply ice and water shield
  • Install valley metal or ice and water shield in valleys
  • Install synthetic underlayment
  • Install new shingles, ridge and ventilation

When the roofing work is complete, you and your specialist review the completion checklist. Roofing Giant provides the final invoice and completion documentation needed for the roofing project. Any additional insurer payment, depreciation release or payment timing depends on the policy, claim status and insurer. Roofing Giant can provide project documents but does not control the insurer’s payment decision or timing.

Step 6. Customer delight

After the roofing scope is documented, Roofing Giant uses project records, roof-measurement tools, applicable weather context, manufacturer information and construction standards to plan the work. Weather data can help establish storm context, but the roof inspection and project record determine the construction scope.

Restoration questions

How fast can you start?

Inspection scheduling depends on current demand. If the project is insurance-funded, construction timing can also depend on the insurer’s coverage decision, the signed construction agreement, permits, material availability and the project scope.

What if my mortgage company is named on an insurance payment?

Mortgage-company procedures vary. Roofing Giant can provide construction contracts, invoices, completion documents and inspection information the lender requests, while the policyholder and lender handle endorsement and disbursement requirements.

What if our roofing estimate differs from the insurer’s estimate?

We can prepare a revised roofing estimate or technical documentation showing quantities, construction details, code-related items and other supported scope differences for insurer review. Roofing Giant does not negotiate policy coverage or claim settlement.

Storm-restoration project evidence

Allen roof, gutter & skylight restoration documents a storm-related roofing scope with shingle replacement, gutters and a replacement skylight, plus a later return project after another storm.

During restoration work, additional roofing items can be documented through inspection, measurements, code review or appraisal. These Roofing Giant examples show project records and roofing scope only; the insurer and policyholder remain responsible for coverage and settlement decisions.
