It depends on the size of the building. A new roof can take anywhere from one to three days, or more for large or complex roofs. For most residential homes in Dallas–Fort Worth, a new shingle roof is installed in a single day.
A typical one-day replacement
7:00 a.m. Material and crew arrive
Shingles are usually delivered the same morning. The crew protects landscaping, covers the pool and sets up.
Tear-off and deck inspection
Old layers come off by mid-morning. Damaged decking is replaced and photographed.
Dry-in
Ice and water shield, underlayment, drip edge and flashing go on before lunch.
Shingles, ridge and ventilation
Field shingles, hip and ridge, and vents are installed through the afternoon.
Cleanup and final walk
Magnetic nail sweep, debris hauled off, and a final inspection with you before the crew leaves.
What adds time
- Two or more stories, steep pitches or complex hips and valleys
- Tile, slate or standing seam metal, which take several days
- Extensive decking replacement
- Rain: we do not open a roof if the forecast will not allow us to dry it in the same day
- Gutters, screens and other trades, which follow the roof
Insurance jobs also include time before installation for the claim itself; the six-step restoration process explains the full timeline.
