What an impact rating does—and does not—tell you
UL 2218 is a laboratory impact-resistance classification. Class 4 is the highest classification in that test, but it is not a promise that hail cannot damage a roof. Real storms vary by hail size, shape, wind speed and impact angle, and product warranties can treat hail damage separately from an impact classification.
For a North Texas roof, compare the exact shingle line, roof geometry, full component package, insurer requirements, warranty language and installed price. Use Roofing Giant’s Class 4 vs. Standard Architectural Shingles guide for a side-by-side decision framework.
Compare the complete CertainTeed roofing system
The field shingles are only one part of a roof replacement. Proposal details should identify the complete specified assembly: underlayment, starter, leak protection where required, hip and ridge products, flashing, ventilation and installation requirements. CertainTeed’s current Landmark product information notes that certain wind-warranty upgrades depend on qualifying CertainTeed starter and hip-and-ridge components.
- Exact product: ask for the full shingle name and current technical data.
- Impact classification: verify the rating for that exact product rather than assuming a brand-wide rating.
- Wind terms: verify the written product and system requirements for the quoted wind coverage.
- Warranty: distinguish the manufacturer material warranty, SureStart™ protection where applicable, enhanced system coverage and Roofing Giant’s separate workmanship terms.
- Ventilation and flashing: confirm the details that affect the complete roof assembly, not only the shingle bundle.
Roofing Giant credential context
Roofing Giant company records identify current CertainTeed-certified status. During the October 2, 2026 public-source review, Roofing Giant’s Owens Corning Preferred profile was independently located, while a current public Roofing Giant CertainTeed profile was not located through the available CertainTeed search interface. For that reason, current CertainTeed credential level, product requirements and enhanced-warranty eligibility are confirmed for the specific project before they are represented in writing.

Project evidence: what is—and is not—published
Roofing Giant’s public DFW Roofing Manufacturer Project Library currently contains named-product project evidence for GAF, Malarkey and Owens Corning. It does not currently publish a named CertainTeed project case study. This page therefore uses CertainTeed’s own current product information for product facts and does not present an unverified Roofing Giant CertainTeed project as evidence.
As additional historical project records are supported for public use, manufacturer-specific case studies can be added to the project library with the same source and privacy standards.

Common CertainTeed roofing questions
Is standard CertainTeed Landmark a Class 4 shingle?
No. CertainTeed currently identifies standard Landmark as UL 2218 Class 3. CertainTeed offers other products with Class 4 classifications, including Landmark TL and NorthGate ClimateFlex. Verify the exact product quoted because classifications can differ by product line.
Does a Class 4 CertainTeed shingle mean the roof is hail-proof?
No. Class 4 is a laboratory impact classification, not a guarantee that every real hailstorm will cause no damage.
Does Roofing Giant have a published CertainTeed project case study?
Not currently in the public manufacturer project library. Roofing Giant does not label a project as CertainTeed unless the historical project record supports that product identification.
How do I confirm the warranty for a CertainTeed roof?
Ask for the exact product, warranty name, qualifying system components, registration requirements and written terms. Roofing Giant confirms the applicable manufacturer program and its own workmanship terms in writing for the specific project.
