Understanding tpo roofing
TPO stands for thermoplastic polyolefin. It is a single-ply roofing membrane used on low-slope roofs. Adjacent sheets are joined with heat-welded seams, and manufacturers offer different membrane and assembly options for different project requirements.
On a Dallas–Fort Worth building, begin with a roof survey. Existing moisture, deck condition, drainage, rooftop equipment and the condition of perimeter details affect whether a repair, recover or replacement is appropriate. Membrane thickness alone does not establish how the finished system will perform.

What affects the installed cost?
Measure the roof, evaluate moisture and identify insulation and drainage needs before relying on a price per square foot. Removal, deck repairs, cover board, tapered insulation, perimeter attachment and equipment details can change the budget substantially. The warranty requested may also require a particular approved assembly and inspection process.
Ask for a written, itemized estimate for your property. A material price, warranty term or online planning range does not describe the complete installed roof.

Maintenance and repair planning
Keep drains and scuppers clear and arrange inspections after significant storms or equipment work. Record punctures, open seams and flashing changes promptly. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance, especially near exhausts or other potential contaminants, and maintain the documentation required by the warranty.

Questions before you choose
Can TPO be installed over an existing roof?
A recover is only an option after assessing moisture, condition, attachment, roof layers and applicable requirements. Wet or unsuitable components need to be addressed.
Is thicker TPO always the better choice?
Thickness is one factor. Cover board, reinforcement, attachment, detailing, roof traffic and warranty requirements also matter.
Does a white TPO roof guarantee lower bills?
A reflective surface can reduce heat absorption, but actual energy results depend on insulation, building operation, weather and the full roof assembly.
How does TPO compare with modified bitumen?
TPO uses thermoplastic sheets and heat-welded seams. Modified bitumen uses reinforced asphalt-based membranes. Compare the complete assemblies and suitability for the building.
