GAF vs. Owens Corning vs. CertainTeed vs. Malarkey Shingles in DFW

Shingle comparison · Dallas–Fort Worth · reviewed October 1, 2026

GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed and Malarkey all sell multiple shingle lines. The brand logo alone does not tell you the impact rating, warranty eligibility, installation requirements or price. Compare the exact product line and complete roof system.

Contractor-credential context: product comparisons are separate from contractor credential status. See Roofing Giant Credentials & Verification for current company-record credentials and independently verifiable manufacturer status.

Do not use this table to infer that one manufacturer is universally better. Each company sells different tiers and specialty products. A Class 3 product from one brand should not be compared as if it were the same product category as a Class 4 product from another.

Five questions that matter more than the logo

  1. Which exact shingle line is quoted? Ask for the manufacturer and full product name.
  2. What impact classification applies to that exact product? North Texas buyers often compare Class 3 and Class 4 products, but the rating is not a promise that hail cannot damage the roof.
  3. Which accessories are required? Starter, hip and ridge, leak barrier, underlayment and ventilation can affect system eligibility and warranty terms.
  4. Which warranty are you actually receiving? A manufacturer may publish several warranties with different contractor or system requirements.
  5. Can you see the product on real DFW roofs? Color and profile look different on a full roof than on a sample board.

Common questions

Which shingle brand is best for DFW?

There is no universal winner. Compare the exact product line, impact rating, roof-system requirements, color, price, warranty and installer scope for your property.

Does a Class 4 shingle mean hail cannot damage it?

No. Class 4 is an impact-test classification. Real hail varies in size, shape, wind speed and impact angle, and manufacturers can exclude hail damage from warranty coverage.

Can Roofing Giant install more than one shingle brand?

Roofing Giant evaluates products and availability by project. Ask us to compare the specific systems you are considering rather than assuming one brand must be used.
