GAF Royal Sovereign 3-Tab Shingles

Choosing the best-looking strip shingle

Some people think all 3-tab shingles look alike. Not so. GAF has gone to great lengths to make Royal Sovereign® the most beautiful strip shingle you can install, with advanced color sequencing that creates a rich, vivid design. Roofing Giant installs asphalt shingle systems across Dallas–Fort Worth and confirms current GAF contractor status and any enhanced-warranty eligibility for the selected system before representing it in writing.

Asphalt-shingle family: this page covers 3-tab shingles specifically. For the family-level comparison of 3-tab, architectural, impact-resistant and designer shingles, use Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Dallas–Fort Worth.

Colors and current availability

Current product check — reviewed October 1, 2026: GAF’s current Royal Sovereign brochure lists Charcoal and Weathered Gray as regionally available colors. Exact Dallas–Fort Worth inventory can vary, so Roofing Giant confirms the current color and package before it is written into a proposal. The Golden Cedar photograph below is retained as a historical color example and should not be read as a promise of current DFW availability.

What to verify before choosing a color

  • Confirm the exact Royal Sovereign package and color currently distributed in DFW.
  • View full-size shingles or a current sample board; screen colors are not a reliable final match.
  • Confirm warranty labeling on the package, including StainGuard® labeling where applicable.
  • Do not assume a historical color photograph remains a current local option.

Current Royal Sovereign product facts

  • Royal Sovereign is GAF’s 3-tab asphalt-shingle line and has been sold for more than 50 years.
  • GAF’s current product page says Royal Sovereign passes ASTM 110 mph and 150 mph wind tests under controlled laboratory conditions; the product warranty is a separate limit.
  • Color Lock™ ceramic-fired granules are intended to help maintain the shingle color.
  • Current GAF warranty documents list a 25-year limited manufacturing-defect warranty term with a 5-year Smart Choice® Protection period.
  • The current GAF Shingle & Accessory Limited Warranty lists a 5-year wind limited-warranty term with maximum wind-speed coverage of 60 mph for Royal Sovereign.
  • StainGuard®-labeled Royal Sovereign shingles carry a 10-year limited algae-discoloration warranty, subject to the written warranty terms.
  • Royal Sovereign is not an impact-resistant Class 4 shingle. If hail-impact classification is a priority, compare Class 4 impact-resistant shingles.
