Follow-up to Introduction Letter
Follow up in person.
Hello Sir/Ma’am, my name is_________________. I’m with Roofing Giant.
We are helping many of your neighbors get a new roof, siding and gutters all paid for by their insurance company.
In fact, I recently sent you an Introduction Letter and I just wanted to personally introduce myself and drop off some information about Roofing Giant.
Anyway, you’ll probably see me a lot around here, so if you have any questions about how we can help YOU get a new roof too, just give me a call, okay?
Okay, great. Well thank you for your time; I hope I have the opportunity to work for you. Goodbye. <Pause – wait for a response.>
By the way, have you had an insurance adjuster out to check for damage?

Follow-up to Introduction Letter
“Hello, may I speak to Mr.(s.)_(name)_, please?
“Mr.(s.)_(name)_, this is (your name) with Roofing Giant. We are a general contractor located in Dallas, TX.
“I’m helping some of your neighbors get a new roof (siding, gutters, windows, etc.) and their insurance company is paying for it.
“Last week (recently) I sent a letter out to your family because I’ve found that nearly every home in your neighborhood area was severely damaged by the big<month><year> hailstorm. As you probably know, when hail falls on an area, it hits every home in the neighborhood. It isn’t very selective.
“Anyway, that’s why I sent you folks a letter, and, I’m just following up to see if you would like to schedule a free, no-obligation inspection of your roof, siding and gutters. I’ll be in the neighborhood anyway, and it only takes 10-15 minutes, okay?”
Homeowner Response 1: “Yes.
Roofing Inspector 1: “Great! Would (Day) or (Day) be better? Would (Time) or (Time) be more convenient for you? Wonderful! I’ll plan to see you on (Day) at (Time). If you think of any questions in the meantime, write them down or make a mental note of them and I’ll be more than happy to answer anything you can think of.
“All right then Mr.(s.)_(name)_, I’ll see you on (Day). Goodbye.”
Homeowner Response 2: “No.”
Roofing Inspector Response 2: “Well. Mr.(s.)_(name)_, I can certainly respect your response. However, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. The inspection is free, and we can help ensure your insurance company is completely aware of all the work that needs to be done. I’ll be inspecting most of your neighbors’ homes, so I’ll be in your neighborhood anyway. It never hurts to be prepared, so should repair be needed, you’ll be aware of it, and able to arrange with your insurance company to see that it gets done.”
Homeowner Response 3: “We didn’t have any damage.”
Roofing Inspector Response 3a: “Well, I can certainly respect your response; however, there was severe hail damage all around you. When hail damages a home, it almost always damages every home in the immediate area. The inspection is free, and there is absolutely no risk or obligation to you. I’ll be in your neighborhood anyway and, frankly, it never hurts to get a second opinion.”
Roofing Inspector Response 3b: “I can certainly appreciate that, however, on many of the homes I have inspected, the homeowner didn’t think there had been damage. After my inspection, and meeting with the insurance adjuster, damage was found and the homeowner received a brand new roof.”
Roofing Inspector Response 3c: “I can certainly appreciate that. We’ve found that many homeowners have felt the same way as you. They weren’t aware hail damage is hard to identify unless you have been trained specifically in what to look for. After we completed a free inspection, most people were surprised to find their home had indeed been damaged. With knowledge of the damage to their home, we were able to work with their insurance adjuster and get them a brand new roof. Wouldn’t you feel better with a free second opinion?”
Homeowner Response 4: “The adjuster said I didn’t have any damage.”
Roofing Inspector Response 4: (See above)
Homeowner Response 5: “We already have someone to do our roof.”
Roofing Inspector Response 5: “I’m assuming you are on a waiting list. Do you know where you stand with your contractor as far as the construction of your roof? The goal of your insurance company is to close your claim as soon as possible, and I’m sure you would like to get the work done as soon as possible.
<Pause – wait for a response.>
“Perhaps you would like to take a look at our process. We are very efficient at handling your work as quickly as possible so you don’t have to worry about it. It never hurts to have your bases covered by getting another contractor involved to see who handles your needs the best.”
Homeowner Response 6: “My husband/wife isn’t home right now.”
Roofing Inspector Response 6: “Mr.(s.)_(name)_ is your (husband/wife) usually home in the evenings? I’m going to be doing inspections in your area on <day>and<day>evening. Which evening would be best to catch (him/her)?” (Continue with appointment.)
Homeowner Response 7: “Just leave an estimate in the mailbox.”
Roofing Inspector Response 7: “Mr.(s.)_(name)_, I understand you are very busy. Because your insurance company would be paying for everything, what I’ll provide you with is a detailed breakdown for everything that needs to be replaced. I would just like to take 5 minutes of your time to explain that in detail so it makes sense. When is usually a better time for you, afternoon or evenings?”
